Generating an API Key

This guide walks you through the process of generating an API key for BitMule in your Make account.

Steps to Generate an API Key

  1. Log in to your Make account
  2. Click on your profile picture in the top right
  3. Select "Profile Settings"
  4. Go to the "API tokens" tab
  5. Click "Add token"
  6. Give your token a name (e.g., "Bitmule")
  7. Select the following required scopes:
    • scenarios:read - To list and read your scenarios
    • scenarios:write - To restore backups
    • teams:read - To access team information
    • organizations:read - To access organization information
    • user:read - To access user information and permissions
  8. Click "Add" to generate the token
  9. Copy the token immediately - you won't be able to see it again

Important Notes

  • Store your API key securely - it provides access to your Make account
  • You cannot view the key again after generation
  • If you lose the key, you'll need to generate a new one
  • Only grant the minimum required scopes listed above
  • You can revoke the key at any time from the API tokens page

Required Scopes Explained

scenarios:read

  • Allows listing of all scenarios
  • Enables reading scenario configurations
  • Required for backup operations

scenarios:write

  • Enables scenario restoration
  • Allows updating scenario configurations
  • Required for restore operations

teams:read

  • Provides access to team information
  • Required for team identification
  • Used for automatic team detection

organizations:read

  • Provides access to organization details
  • Required for organization identification
  • Used for automatic organization detection

user:read

  • Provides access to user information
  • Required for permission verification
  • Used for user context in operations

Next Steps

After generating your API key:

  1. Copy it to your clipboard
  2. Go to your Configuration Settings page
  3. Click the pencil icon next to API Key
  4. Paste your new API key
  5. Click the check mark to save
